Research

At the UCLA School of Dentistry, we envision a future in which diagnosing what ails us--and restoring optimal health--begin with a trip to the dentist's office.

Already, our research has revealed a way to predict tooth decay months or even years before it occurs, and then stop it from happening. We are using full mouth X-rays to provide insight into who will develop osteoporosis. In yet another lab, we are developing methods to re-grow bone, not only in the jaw, but also in the spine. And by studying saliva, we have identified the earliest signs of cancer.

In the community, our research identifies risk groups for dental disease. In the classroom, our research improves the way we train new colleagues.

Intrigued? We invite you to explore this site to learn more about the UCLA School of Dentistry's research activities. Since 1964, our investigators have conducted cutting-edge basic and translational science, clinical/health services, and educational research programs, the outcomes of which have transformed clinical practice and dental education around the world.

One thing is clear: Every year, our researchers in the field of dental medicine make discoveries that will revolutionize the face of health care tomorrow.
